Paper In the story, “Fish Head” by John Hertz, the subjects of human grief and mental retardation are discussed in a matter that makes the reader retain the theme with little difficulty. First, the story is unusual and, therefore, it appeals to the reader’s imagination. Next, the story is easy to understand in that it uses language that is plain and simple. Finally, the story appeals to a large level of people and social classes. This story explores the topics of human grief and mental retardation in a manner that is easy to understand and appealing to many different people. First, this story is unusual and, therefore, it appeals to the reader’s imagination. For example, the third stanza is particulary odd in that is speaks about an actual fish that smells because it is irregular with mental retardation:A fish is a head, but is it ahead? Without the tail, we feel that smell. The smell is ripe, in this certain type. The fish is ahead and we all are dead. Next, the story is easy to understand in that it uses language that is easy to understand. The story is written in English which we all know is one of the main languages used in the world today. Finally, the story appeals to a large level of people and social classes. Let’s face it everyone loves fish. This one just happens to be smelly and irregular. This was an exquisite story. One which I can proudly say was an interesting and morally suggestive. I could understand it, and most importantly of all, I now have a better appreciation of the mentally ill and the mental grief that fishermen go through.
