Farm Project Introduction Essay, Research Paper With living on a farm, I had a lot of choice of what to do for my geography project, though nothing interested me quite as much as the factors the effect the rate of growth of a crop. Whilst looking around my farm one afternoon I noticed a field that had a few different coloured soils down the profile of it, I also noted that a crop had just recently been planted in it, it turned out to be a crop of maize. This was an ideal crop on which to base a project upon because each stage of growth can easily be seen because of the great height of the maize plant. With there being different coloured soils in the field I drew the assumption that there were different soil types within the field and that a comparison could be made with the rate of growth of the maize at each different soil type. I could then look at other factors that affect the rate of growth such as measuring: 1.) pH, 2.) Infiltration rates, 3.) Stone size, 4.) Amount of stones, 5.) Weights of the crop, 6.) Number of cobs on the plants, 7.) Weight of the cobs on the plants, 8.) Moisture levels of the soil, 9.) The gradient of the field, 10.) The height of the crop through several stages of its growth, 11.) The different soil horizons, 12.) Amount of worms.????????? After each soil type boundary had found, I would find these measurements for each different soil type and then obtain a professional soil type analysis for each area and compare all of the results for each measurement.
