Abortion Should Be Illegal Essay Research Paper

Abortion Should Be Illegal Getting an abortion is a very tough decision to make with serious consequences. The process requires the pregnant, soon to be mother, to go through a procedure where the fetus in the uterus is killed and extracted from their body. The decision to have this done could be a very regrettable one. Sure, it may feel like it is the right thing to do at the time, but later on in life the mother and father of the unborn child might realize that they wanted to keep the child, but it’s too late. Abortion affects society, families, and the individuals who allow the procedure to be done. It also teaches people that there is a way out of pregnancy and that’s why I feel it should be illegal. Abortion affects society by teaching the youth that there is a way out of pregnancy. What should really be taught to the youth is abstinence from sex, so that they would never have to worry about experiencing an unwanted pregnancy. It also teaches the youth that there is no serious consequence for that major action. For example, a female friend of mine said that if she would have been taught by her parents and school to obstain from sex rather than to use a condom when she had sex, than she would have tried to stay away from sex totally. She also went on to say that the movies and television shows influenced her because it made her feel as if she had a way out of pregnancy. My friend’s boyfriend went on to say that those are also all the same reasons why he allowed the abortion to go on. Now, they wish that they could go back into the past and change that decision. Which brings me to my next point, and that is that abortion affects families. Younger siblings or relatives can be influenced by the their older siblings or cousins. In other words, getting an abortion is not showing anybody any good role modeling skills. It can also tear families apart because of the decision they made. For example, one of my cousins had an abortion and her mother, my aunt, found out and they were not on speaking terms for a while because her mom felt that she was a killer. After my mother and other aunts found out, they were also appalled, but they did not take it to the extreme her mother did. Her mom also did not want her to come around her little sister because she felt that she was gonna be a bad influence on her. That’s just a prime example on how abortion affects families. Abortion is a very regrettable decision for the individual because it can not be reversed or changed. There are no advantages from getting one. All it does is cause pain to the individuals involved and the families. The mother and father of the unborn child may feel that they wanted to keep the baby, it’s already too late. I feel that if an individual will not be able to take care of the baby once it is born, they should give it up for adoption, so that they could at least know that their child is still alive. For example, another female friend of mine who had an abortion said that if she could go back in time, she would find a way to take care of her child. She also said that she wanted to committ suicide because she hated herself for killing her baby. Her boyfriend also quit dating her because she had the abortion without his wishes. The abortion caused her a lot of physical and emotional strain. In the end, abortion is not a logical act to commit. It ruins families and indiviuals because it is an irreversable process. There are many other options for a person to choose instead of killing off their child. Abortion should be illegal in the U.S. because it gives people an easy way out of a action they made. People who have had them done normally feel remorseful because they know that getting an abortion is not the right way to get out of pregnancy.
