Myths Meaning Essay, Research Paper Kuka Teran 11/18/99 Mr. Coughlin Myths Meaning “A myth is a story that is not true on the outside, but true on the inside.” In the story of the creation of all living things as well as the sky, sun, moon and stars there is a meaning that most people, when reading the bible, seem to just read over and not stop and take time to understand this somewhat subliminal message within Genesis. The meaning is a part of the myth which is the Creation Story. A myth is a story with a meaning, but to understand the meaning you cannot take everything the author says literally. If you do you see some miracles and things that sound completely out of the ordinary and fiction. But if you try to see past the seemingly fiction accounts you can see the real meaning to the story. The Creation Story has a meaning which is much more simple than most people have been lead to believe. The Creation Story is a myth that explains why the things of the earth, ocean and sky were created. Some people try to compare the creation story to the scientific theory of evolution. But what people don’t understand is that the theory of evolution is explaining how things were created. An example of the meaning of the creation story is when the bible says “…God created man out of the clay of the earth” in actuality the author is trying to say that God created man. Now to try to prove his point the author tried to explain the event of the creation of man in a way that he thought would attract people to the Christian religion. An American myth is the story or idea of Mother Earth. In the past people just came to call the earth mother because she produced animals and water and crops to keep her children, mankind, alive. This came because a mother takes care of her child. She nurtures her and loves her and that is what people thought the earth was doing for them.
