Relief Pitching Essay, Research Paper -Set up your relief men with the best reliever for the end and the others as middle men if the starter fails early. -Relief men with good arms can pitch an inning or two for two or three days in a row. -If you use them three or more innings in any one game, they should have a day’s rest before pitching again. -If a relief man is not used in a game for three or four days in a row, have him pitch 15-20 minutes of batting practice one day and then rest a day before relieving. -When your relief pitcher gets up to warm up, make sure he gets good and loose the first time up. -For the next two or three innings then it should not be necessary for him to throw too much. -If he warms up from the first or second inning to the seventh or eighth, it may be necessary to switch to a different reliever. -Sometimes it will be necessary for a pitcher to warm up in a hurry—he can get loose rapidly by throwing 15-20 preliminary pitches like an infielder.
