Stuff Essay, Research Paper Draft Report College Prep. Eng. 4-19-99 Drafting A draft or, conscription, is a system of copulsory enrollment of men and women into the armed forces. Conscripts are not the some as volanteers, proffesionals, or mercenaries who affer their services to their government for pay. They are drafted by the government and required to serve in the armed forces. the earliest form of drafting recorded was done by the ancient Greeks around the 1st century B.C. In Greece men were taken from a very young age and trained for several years in the citezen malitia. However, the draft has been greatly modified scince then. In the United States all able-bodied men,usually between the ages of 16 and 60, were compelled to register on the lists of those available for service. This report is relevant nowbecause America is debating reinstituting the draft. If this were to happen, all men and women over the age of 18 would be elidgible for being drafted into the U.S. armed forces. Currently this is a very disputted subject because some people beleive that bieng drafted contradicts their freedom.
